Honoring Bedford’s Veterans in 2014: Schedule of Ceremonies for Tuesday, November 11

Veterans Day ceremonies to honor all Veterans will be held at Veterans Memorial Park, Bedford (Great Road, across from Bedford Marketplace Shopping Center) starting at noon on Tuesday, November 11.

In case of inclement weather, ceremonies will be moved to Town Hall (Lower Level Multi-Purpose Room). Contact Paul Purchia: 781-789-8974 (cell) or 781-275-2464 (H).

Bedford’s Police and Firefighter Honor Guard will escort the Patriotic Holiday Committee members and Dignitaries from the Patriot Statue, along the walkway to the Monument, while a Parade March is being played by the Bedford Minutemen.

Paul Purchia, Chair of Bedford’s Patriotic Holiday Committee will introduce the program and participants. The Opening Prayer will be offered by Chaplain/American Legion Post 221, and Bedford Scouts will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. The Bedford High School Marching Band will play the National Anthem.

Speakers will include

  • Jerry Hartmann, American Legion Commander Post 221
  • David Ganeto, VFW Commander Post 1628
  • Margot Fleishman, Chair, Bedford Selectmen
  • State Senator Mike Barrett
  • State Representative Ken Gordon

Attendees will be invited to remember a special veteran by placing a flag on the Veterans Memorial Wreath of Honor, and to share the name and military service of the honored veteran with the assembled audience.

The BHS Marching Band will lead the participants in a patriotic sing along of God Bless America before the BHS Air Force R.O.T.C., under the direction of Chief Master Sargeant Chris Edris,  fires its volleys.

In conclusion, Bedford High School Band members will sound taps, and VFW Post 1628 Adjutant  James Burton will offer a closing prayer.
