St Pauls Episcopal Church - LogoOn Sunday evening October 19, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church will begin offering Night Prayer, a gathering time for contemplation and meditation at 7:15pm in the chapel area at the church (100 Pine Hill Road, Bedford).  The service will last approximately 30 minutes, and will continue each week through December 14.

The Rev. Christopher Wendell, St. Paul’s Rector, hopes Night Prayer will become a meaningful way for individuals to gather for reflection and stillness, standing on the threshold between the week that has passed and the one to come. “The gathering will provide a place for the more contemplative dimensions of our spirituality to be nourished in a way that the hustle and bustle of Sunday morning doesn’t always allow,” he said.

“The contemplative spirit has the power not just to make us “feel better” but also to deepen our commitment to living lives of intention, purpose, and meaning,” Rev. Wendell continued.  “Through the centuries Christians have found that contemplative practice is an essential part of transforming both ourselves and our world into places of greater blessing.  Night Prayer is a way of participating in that ancient tradition.”

The order of service for Night Prayer will include several long periods of quiet, simple chants, short readings about contemplation, centering prayer, and a time for intercessions.  Rev. Wendell, and the church’s seminarian, Rachel Wildman, will share the leadership for Night Prayer.  One of them will convene the group and officiate the simple service each week

Come, unplug from the crazy,” said Rev. Wendell, “and plug into the Spirit in a new way to begin your week.”
