Submitted by The Town of Bedford

The Bedford Selectmen recently awarded a contract to Revoli Construction Co. to reline the 20-inch diameter sewer force main along Bedford Street in Lexington, between the Westview Cemetery and Eldred Street.  A section of this pipe failed last winter, and the Town of Bedford has issued this contract to install a liner in the pipe to avert any future incidents.

In order to perform this work, the existing sewer main will be taken out of service and a temporary pipe will be set above ground on the south side of Bedford Street.   The temporary pipe will cross under the driveways to allow full access [for homeowners].  Several pits will be installed in the middle of the roadway to facilitate the insertion of the liner.

The project is scheduled to begin on September 5th and continue thru mid-November.  Work hours will be Monday thru Friday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.

There are an estimated four nights when the contractor will be working from 7:00 pm to 1:00 am to connect the by-pass pipe at either end of the project.

The road will remain open at all times, although traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction when the Contractor is working at the access pits.  The Lexington Police Department will have traffic control officers on site at all times.

Bedford’s consultant, Weston & Sampson Engineers, will be overseeing this project.

Should you have any questions or need additional information, please contact the Bedford DPW at (781) 275-7605.

Thank you for your patience throughout this project.

The timing could not be worse! The work is scheduled during commuter rush and just at the beginning of the back to school madness. I wonder why this project couldn’t have been done during the summer months.
