Submitted by the Bedford Department of  Public Works

Repairs to the Minuteman Bikeway between Depot Park and the Shawsheen River Bridge at Wiggins Avenue are scheduled to begin on July 2nd.  The DPW Grounds Division will first remove the loam along the side of the path where tree roots have penetrated the asphalt.  During the week of July 14th, a crew from Matt Foti Landscaping and Tree Services will be on site to cut the roots using an air spade which minimizes damage to the trees.

Following the root cutting, DPW will sawcut the asphalt to remove the roots under the pavement.  This work will have temporary gravel patches, but will be level with the path.  The gravel patches will be paved within a day or two.  The bikeway will be open for travel during the repair phases and a police detail will be on site to direct users around the construction equipment.

The full bike will be milled and repaved in mid-August.  On the day of milling and the day of paving, the bikeway will be closed and an alternate route between South Road and Wiggins Avenue will be marked.

Please contact the Department of Public Works at (781)  275-7605 if you have any questions or need additional information.  Thank you for your patience.

I’m glad to see the town is making repairs. The path has been deteriorating severely the last few years. I’d also like to see better clean up, there is a lot of debris and trash next to the path.
