State Treasurer Candidate Tim Conroy to Speak in Bedford on Monday, February 10

Submitted by State Representative Ken Gordon

Conroy-eventI have invited Tom Conroy, who is the House chair of the Joint Committee on Labor and Workforce Development to address the voters of Bedford, Burlington and Wilmington at a breakfast Feb. 10, 2014 at the Boardroom Bistro on the Bedford/Burlington/Billerica town line.

Tom and I are working to raise the minimum wage so that workers in Massachusetts can raise up from poverty if they work full-time jobs. We are also working to address unemployment reforms in a way that relieves small business from burdensome premiums but does not reduce eligibility for recipients.  He is also running for State Treasurer and will talk about his view for the Commonwealth.

Tom impressed me as soon as I began serving in the legislature as a hard worker who stands up for people. He’s got a bachelor’s degree from Yale University and two masters in economics.  He understands the pressure of small business, having participated himself, and is there for those in the Commonwealth who need a hand.

Raising the minimum wage does not help the poor. It hurts them.

Forch,
Based on what logic does paying people wages that helps them improve their situation hurt them?
