It may be snow-storm season, but plans are underway as Bedford celebrates its 10th year as a PMC Kids’ community; the ride will take center stage on June 14.
Bedford PMC Kids at Boston Garden
Fourteen Pan Mass Challenge (PMC) Bedford Kid Ride participants served as Boston Celtics anthem buddies, standing with players as the national anthem was performed at Boston’s TD Garden on Sunday, February 9. The families in attendance were selected in a drawing among all of Bedford’s PMC Kids participants; they were the Kolbs, Pulizzis, Kilroys, Towles, DiGangis, Fitzgeralds, Naldinis.
The kids sat court-side and watched the players warm up; they even had the chance to throw the balls with the team and take shots.
During a special in-game presentation, PMC Founder Billy Starr was presented with the Heroes Among Us Award. Established as an initiative of the Boston Celtics in 1997, the award identifies individuals who have made a positive impact on the lives of others within the community.
Bedford PMC Kids Highlighted
Bedford’s wonderful PMC Kids participants and volunteers were highlighted as the top PMC Kids Ride in 2013 in the PMC Year book.
Local participants raised more than $130,000 in 2013, bringing the town’s overall total to more than $800,000 since the ride began in 2005.
Much of the credit for Bedford’s success goes to its coordinator, Amy Mason, who inspires hundreds of volunteers and riders each year.
