The Bedford School Department has scheduled a Professional Development Day, sometimes referred to as a Workshop Day, for Friday, January 17, creating a long winter weekend in combination with Martin Luther King Day on Monday, January 20. A full day is planned for Lane’s adult learners during Friday’s workshops.

Grade 3 teachers will participate in a workshop called “Thinking Like A Historian.” The workshop is presented by Primary Source, an outstanding organization getting teachers to think more deeply about historical content and integrate it with higher level thinking skills.  This supports our district’s mission of having all students be critical thinkers.

Grade 4 and 5 teachers will analyze the mid-year writing assessments in their respective grades.  This mid-year check-in gives them an opportunity to see where Lane School students demonstrate success and where they still need improvement.

Lane’s Teaching Assistants will be engaged in a workshop focused on strategies for helping our students who struggle with anxiety.

Some may think that “Teacher Workshop” means using hammers and nails to build something, but as a school principal, I have developed a different perspective and look forward to the enrichment that Friday’s workshops will generate for Lane’s teachers.
