Award-winning bird photographer, Michael Milicia, will offer “Fundamentals of Digital Nature Photography”, a five-week course on Wednesday evenings, 6:00-9:00, beginning September 11.

The classes will meet at the Bedford Center for the Arts space at Old Town Hall, 16 South Road.  The class size is limited to 12 students in order to provide opportunity for questions and demonstrations.

This course is especially designed for anyone with a DSLR camera.  The presentation will start with basic concepts and build on them in a step-by-step manner to provide an in-depth treatment of several of the most important technical areas of digital photography. There will also be a hands-on component in the classroom which will allow the student to immediately apply what has been learned.  This approach makes the class useful for beginners as well as for more advanced amateurs.

Mr. Milicia is a renowned, award-winning bird photographer whose publication credits include National Geographic, National Wildlife Federation, Palm Press Greeting Cards and the Boston Globe.  In June 2011, he became an instructor and workshop leader with Charles Glatzer’s Shoot The Light Instructional Photographic Workshops.

Interested photographers can register with PayPal at the BCA’s website, www.bedfordarts.org, or by sending a check for $195, payable to the Bedford Center for the Arts, to Bob Bass, 42 Fletcher Road, Bedford, MA 01730.  For additional information or questions, email Michael Milicia at [email protected].

Season-opening Photo Group meeting to feature Mark David Bailey on Tuesday, September 10

Bedford resident, Mark David Bailey, rock balancer and photographer, will be the featured speaker at the Bedford Center for the Arts Photo Group’s meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, September 10th, at the Old Town Hall, 16 South Road.

Bailey believes that singular moments can transcend time and space. His work intends to challenge assumptions about what is possible and affirm the power of positive thought. He delights in turning the appearance of permanence on its head. Bailey’s images explore themes of ephemerality, possibility, and intention.

Bailey is best known for his images of balanced rocks. The rock balance sculptures are usually as precarious as they appear to be, sometimes taking an hour or more of careful adjustment before they stand. Stones range in size from just 10 or 20 pounds to 200 pounds or more. Bailey lives in Bedford, MA with his wife and two young daughters. Photography, and especially balancing rocks, is a meditative act for him. It is a celebration of the power of visualizing positive outcomes in a precarious world. See https://www.markdavidbailey.com

The Photo Group, a program of the Bedford Center for the Arts,  is comprised of about 30 photographers from Bedford and nearby communities who gather monthly to learn more about the artistic and technical principles of digital photography.  The meetings are typically held on the first Tuesday in each month from 7-9 pm in the BCA space on the ground floor of Old Town Hall, 16 South Road, Bedford.  Guests are welcome.  For more information, see https://bcaphotogroup.wordpress.com or contact Bob Bass at [email protected] or 781-275-5230.
