More than 90 members and friends of First Parish on the Common travelled to LaLacheur Park in Lowell on Monday to hear the congregation’s choir sing the national anthem at the start of the Lowell Spinners’ game against the Auburn Doubledays.
The group was rewarded not only by a stellar rendition of the Star Spangled Banner, led by First Parish Music Director Brad Connor, plus the Spinners’ requisite pre-game and mid-inning silliness, but also by a nearly perfect game by the home team.
According to coverage in the Lowell Sun, Spinners pitcher Jamie Callahan “threw six perfect innings as the … team came within two outs of the first perfect game in franchise history before a one-out single by Cody Dent, son of Bucky, broke up the perfecto, as Lowell cruised to a 7-0 win.”
