Boxwood and ink berry were considered according to Oxbow Gardens’ owner Scott Dyment, but several dozen Ilex crenata ‘Helleri ‘ are expected to be just the ticket in helping to define the retaining wall along Great Road in front of the Blake Block.

Commonly known as Heller’s Japanese Holly, the evergreen shrubs have a  dense mounding habit, small dark green leaves, inconspicuous white flowers in the spring and occasional black fruit in the fall.

Dyment delivered the shrubs on Tuesday and plans to install flowers in the site’s planters on Wednesday.
