Ken’s Maiden Speech on the House floor

A Beacon Hill tradition calls for House Reps to provide a formal “maiden speech” on the Floor before that member is entitled to speak spontaneously on various issues that come up.  Ken wasted little time — nor did five others among the 14 Freshmen — in diving right into his address.  Ken could not help poking fun at the reverence within the system with a little humor.

He spoke in favor of a budget amendment concerning the funding of certain benefits for Senior Citizens. This issue has grown important to him since meeting so many wonderful seniors during his campaign. The speech achieved its goal, and the amendment was adopted unanimously.

Ken was quoted in the North section of the Boston Globe

Globe correspondent John Laidler wrote about the State House debate on restoring the death penalty in Massachusetts.

Gordon said that the horrific actions of the alleged terrorists had not altered his view. “We don’t have the moral authority to kill our citizens. That’s my position and I don’t make any exceptions.”  Click here to read the full story.
