The 12th New England show of the American Gerbil Society (AGS) attracted over 100 visitors to its annual event at Middlesex Community College in Bedford.

Gerbils were judged on their conformation, color, and temperament, and awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd place ribbons. 1st place winners from each color class went on to compete for the top honors of Best in Show and Best Opposite Sex.

This year’s overall winners were BWC’s Kenai, a gray agouti male bred and shown by Jo Kelley of Lexington, KY, and SRG’s Sorka, a Siamese female bred and shown by Libby Hanna of Boston, MA (formerly of Bedford).

In addition to the breed show, visitors brought along their own gerbils to compete in the Pet Class competitions, hamtrack races and tube-chewing contests. Demonstrations of gerbil agility training took place throughout the day.

The AGS holds three shows across the country annually as well as an online virtual show.
