What makes us and our community healthy?

Submitted by Healthy Bedford Coordinator Carla Olson

Bedord in Motion logo“Who is to say what makes us and our community healthy?  Concepts of what we need to make and keep us healthy vary amongst individuals and from community to community.

As a result of Northwest Suburban Health Network Alliance (CHNA 15) Healthy Communities planning grant, Bedford asked residents their opinions on what makes Bedford healthy, and what are some of the obstacles to their quality of life in Bedford.   Survey responders overwhelmingly cited “Community” as Bedford’s most positive attribute, followed by “Nature” and “Trails”.   As far as obstacles, residents resoundingly responded that “Traffic” was their biggest hurdle, this included sitting in traffic, as well as lack of public transportation options.  This was followed by “Affordability”.

Residents had many suggestions on how to mitigate the above obstacles.  Most often cited solutions are included in the survey below.   Kindly take a moment &  vote for the one you feel would make the most positive impact on residents lives.
