When 1366 Technologies introduced its Bedford facility to the community last week, company CEO Frank van Mierlo noted reasons for the company’s probable sustainability and long term success. In addition to the core technologies that the company espouses, its sound financial footing and alliances with strong global partners, he cited his team’s “unrelenting discipline” and “collective skills” that propel the company.
Along with its move to Bedford, the company has undertaken a successful corporate fitness challenge, the results of which van Mierlo equated with the company’s lean and fit corporate culture. And he heralded employee James Serdy, who at age 73 bicycles to work every day from his home in Back Bay, and who competes with the MIT Rowing Club, finishing second in his division in the 2011 C.R.A.S.H.-B Sprints World Indoor Rowing Championships.
Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray was also on hand for the event, speaking about the ways in which the research and science behind 1366 Technologies’ product has produced “tangible results in the Clean Energy Revolution,” and citing statistics demonstrating solid job growth in the sector, with an increasing number of companies involved in clean energy.

Professor Emanuel Sachs, the company’s Chief Technology Officer, noted that 1366 Technologies’ new process for creating silicon wafers that are “drop-in” replacements for industry-standard chips reduces variations within the chip and eliminates waste.

In the end, the morning was a great celebration for the company, with guests from MIT laboratories and family members in attendance, as well as representatives of the U.S. Department of Energy and the Massachusetts Clean Energy Council, plus a delegation from Bedford’s Chamber of Commerce.
