Bedford Schools Enter into New Partnership with Middlesex Community College

At the School Committee meeting on Tuesday night, Superintendent Jon Sills reported that Bedford Schools have entered into a new collaboration with Middlesex Community College, becoming “a site for internships.”

To inaugurate this partnership, three interns—as part of their Public Policy course of study—will work on the Security Task Force that was formed by the Sills following the events at Newtown, CT. The purpose of the Task Force is to advise the district about improved security systems and protocol.

Sills said that additional interns may also work with students who are involved in the Tenacity Challenge, a program in which Bedford first participated last year to increase academic achievement among students of color and to address the so-called “achievement gap.”

Note: In 2012, the Tenacity Challenge competition consisted of “four events centered on the theme of tenacity and leadership”: a science and math quiz bowl; a short, team-writing piece; history and social science problem solving; and artistic creation.
