Bedford Center for the Arts’ Photography Group co-chairs Bob Bass and Bill Davison at Cary Memorial Library during the reception for Water in All its Forms

The Bedford Center for the Arts Photography Group has mounted a juried show of members’ work, Water in All Its Forms, in the large meeting room on the lower level of the Cary Memorial Library in Lexington.

An opening reception was held on October 3, but the show will be on display during regular library hours through October 31.

Water was chosen as the show’s topic because it is synonymous with life. Water is, in all its forms, ubiquitous. Indispensible and devastating, it can be an object of desire, contemplation, ritual, purification, prophecy, and fear. It symbolizes change, chaos, and time. It is fought over, hoarded, and taken for granted. Water adopts surprising shapes and colors and can disappear and emerge again in a completely different form. Water is a perfect canvas for creative interpretation.

The exhibit, which showcases approximately 35 images by photographers from Bedford and surrounding towns, was juried by Nick Johnson, an accomplished fine art photographer, faculty member of the New England School of Photography, and, with wife Kelli Costa, owner Gallery 7 in Maynard. Johnson reports that he was very impressed with the overall quality of the submissions which include color and black and white images spanning many styles including landscape, New England scenic, abstract, nocturnal and nature/wildlife.

Photography Group members Bill Davison, Donna Griffiths, Marv Goldschmitt, and Mark Levinson formed a show committee to work with juror Nick Johnson and hang the show.

Images on display include work by the following BCA Photography Group members: Bob Bass: Soothing the sole; Bianca Bauer: Lonedrop on the top, On the move, Water Pear; Robert C Bicknell: Autumn Cascade, October Morning, Water Over Stone; Joan Bines: Sunset ; Monika Cziria: Summer Fun Memories ; Bill Davison, Jen, Isle of Skye, Untitled, Takayama, Untitled, Yakushima; Daniel Eppelsheimer: Courage, Red Water, Unseen; Marv Goldschmitt: Cracked, Deep Blue Thought, Simplicity; Donna J. W. Griffiths: Entering the Pool, Moon Light, Nonpareils; Betty Levine: Heron In Flight ; Sy Levine: Pauline ; Mark Levinson: Bubbles, Geothermal Stream, Yellowstone N.P.; Michele Ming Shan: Charles River, In my backyard; John M. Sullivan: Boston Harbor – Tall Ships at dusk; Gregory Trakimas: Hidden Pond, Sheepish Duck; Adam Woodbury: Halibut Point, Jellyfish.

The group typically meets on the first Tuesday of each month in the fully accessible BCA Space on the ground floor of Bedford’s Old Town Hall at 16 South Road, and all interested individuals are welcome.
