Art News for October

October 2, 2012

Submitted by Bedford Center for the Arts, with corrected links

Bedford Center for the Arts proudly participated in the dedication of the Chaim Gross sculpture Dance Rhythm on Bedford Day. A gift to the town by the Wade family, the sculpture is now installed along Mudge Way.

BCA’s fall classes are underway — the drawing class began last week, but there are other classes and a full slate of October Samplers to check out. And BCA’s ArtFlix series continues with a documentary about Ansel Adams on October 10 in a comfortable home theater, right here in Bedford.

BCA will honor its many artists during a juried members-only show at the Bedford Library’s Atrium gallery in November.  If you’re an artist whose membership has lapsed but you would like to submit work to be considered in the show, click here to learn about BCA’s half-year memberships.

Bedford resident artists and former residents are making news: three of the authors of The Ice Cream Stand & Other Stories and Poems will appear as part of Concord’s Festival of Authors this month, and Bedford High School graduate John Ferrillo, now the principal oboist with the Boston Symphony, will appear in this month’s World of Music concert at Middlesex Community College on Springs Road.

Kathy Deflice-Secor is BCA’s featured artist for October, but there is also news about Astrid Reischwitz, Bill Davison and Kathy Deflice-Secor, the three BCA members whose work is among the finalists on display in the Concord Art Association’s prestigious 13th Annual Frances N. Roddy Open Competition show; Mary Johannessen, Michael Milicia and Liz Rodriguez, the BCA artists who will show their work at Paradise City Arts Festival in Northampton; and Bedford potter Carol Rissman who will take part in Lowell Open Studios later this month. Yet another BCA member, John Lobosco, will perform classical Turkish music later this month in conjunction with the Waltham Philharmonic Orchestra’s 3rd Sunday concert featuring Orkestra Marhaba.

BCA’s list of local events is full of adventures in the arts in Bedford and surrounding communities, and the web site also includes news about BCA’s photo group, play readers  and Art in the Afternoon.
