Celebrate Bedford Day 2012 on Saturday, September 15

September 10, 2012

By Julie McCay Turner

Bedford will celebrate its “birthday” on Saturday, September 15, and almost everyone in town will attend the party.

There will be a parade (stepping off from the corner of The Great Road and Loomis Street at 10:30 am, proceeding up The Great Road to Mudge Way) and ending on the town’s municipal campus where you’ll find a community fair, featuring almost every organization in town. There will be food, music, fun and even on-site bike parking, watched over by Bedford’s Bicycle Advisory Committee.

Amy Hamilton and the Bedford Recreation Department have made several documents available to help groups prepare for Bedford Day:

And we’re delighted to present a selection of photographs from past Bedford Days. Click here to view the slideshow!

The Citizen thanks The BCA  Blast, Bedford Center for the Arts’ newsletter for information about these annual Bedford Day events:

The work will be judged and the show will be hung that afternoon because it is open to the public on Friday, September 14, from 8 am to 4 pm. On Bedford Day the show opens at 10:30 am, and awards will be presented at 12:30 pm. All work must be picked up by 3 o’clock. The sale runs from 1 to 5 pm on Friday, from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday, and there is a bag sale on Sunday afternoon from 1 to 4 pm.
  • Danny Oates Memorial 5k Road Race: Registration for the 18th Danny Oates Memorial 5K race and 2.5K walk begins at 7:30 am at the John Glenn Middle School. The race starts at 8:30 to make sure participants can get to the parade and fair in plenty of time. If you’re up even earlier, The Kids Fun Run returns this year with a 7 am sign-up and the run on the field at 7:30–all participants get a medal.    The Danny Oates Memorial Race, sponsored by the Frank W. Thompson Lodge, Masonic Association, was founded to pay tribute the beloved son of Robert and Judy Oates. Bob is a retired member of the Bedford Fire Department and member of various civic organizations; his son Brian currently serves as one of our local firefighters. All proceeds of the race fund the Danny Oates Memorial Scholarship. For additional information and registration please visit www.dannyoates5k.com.
