Two BHS Track and Field Quartets are Champs in State Divisional Relays

Both Bedford High School track teams’ 4×800-meter relay squads are state Division 4 champions.

The boys’ quartet of Will Protasowicki, Oren Brosgol, Jonny Garraway, and Carter Rauch won their race in Saturday’s Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association Division 4 State Relays. Their time of 8:17.48 broke the 21-year-old BHS record of 8:20.15.

The girls 4×800-meter relay team won their race with a time of 9:54.41, only three seconds slower than the school record. The winning foursome was Grace Niu, Farrah Scott, Anna Massaro, and Zadie Buckley. Saturday’s relays took place at Dracut High School.

  • A third-place finish by the girls’ distance medley relay team, composed of Emma Floyd (1,200 meters), Elena Protasowicki (400), Buckley (800), and Massaro (1,600). The team’s time for the 4,000 meters was 13 minutes, 27.5 seconds.
  • The boys’ distance medley relay team placed fourth with a time of 11:13.66. The four competitors were Platon Gorkavy (400 meters), Rauch (1,200), Brosgol (800), and Garraway (1,600). 
  • The girls’ 4×200-meter team placed eighth with a time of 1:53. Competing were Mia Free, Madeline McInnis, Eliza Dickert, and Swetha Kaundinya.
  • A quartet of Free, McInnis, Ciara Shelton, and Ariane Sweetland placed eighth in the sprint medley relay in 3:38.84.
  • Bedford finished ninth in boys’ long jump with a total combined jump of 18.80 meters. The team was Martin Nguyen, Gil Galman, and Reece Gilmartin.

Other BHS results in the Division 4 relays were: boys’ 4×100-meter team placed 10th with a time of 47.06. Running for Bedford were Jacob Anderson, Gilmartin, Galman, and Jonathan Dandridge. The girls’ 100-meter shuttle hurdle team of Josie Donnelly, Eliza Dickert, Madeline Ota, and Tatum Gayron placed 12th in 1:19.02. 

Also, the girls’ shotput team of Protasowicki, Sophia Panagiotou, and Farrah Scott placed 13th with a total combined throw of 22.17 meters. The boys’ shot put team placed 15th with a total throw of 30.49 meters. Throwing were Chase Larimore, Alessandro Salato, and Vikram Voleti. This trio was also the boys’ discus team, which placed 19th with combined throw of 78.35 meters.

Bedford’s second team in the spring medley relay –Gayron, Kaundinya, Ota, and Allison Miller – placed 18th in 4:58.75. 

Two relay teams also competed in the boys’ sprint medley. Martin Nguyen, Jonathan Dandridge, Vineet Joseph, and Sahill Rotella placed 15th in 4:04.35. Jacob Anderson, Platon Gorkavy, Leo DiSano, and Patrick Salazar-Weibel placed 24th with a time of 4:38.86.

Several Buccaneers competed at the Warrior Invitational Meet at Foxborough High School on April 18, the association’s largest meet of the season. Buckley placed fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:21.58, and Rauch placed fifth in the 800 in 1:59.46.  

Both teams are also 2-0 in Dual County League dual meets, defeating Waltham and Boston Latin.
