Middlesex Community College A World Of Music Concert Series will continue with live concerts this fall. The series will open with the Lowell Chamber Orchestra, conducted by MCC faculty member Orlando Cela, on Saturday, September 24 at 7:30 pm in the Donahue Family Academic Arts Center, Theatre in Lowell. The Lowell Chamber Orchestra will perform a varied program of works from the Classical Era and today. The winner of the LCO concerto competition, Roi Karni, bassett clarinet, will perform the Clarinet Concerto by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Paikuna Saqinku by Colombian composer Estefanía Pardo Pérez will be featured as the

Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Nosferatu W. Murnau’s German Expressionist horror film from 1922 will be presented with music by the Dylan Jack Quartet, led by MCC music alumnus Dylan Jack, drummer. The ensemble, which also includes Eric Hofbauer, guitar; Jerry Sabatini, trumpet, and Tony Leva, bass and electronics, will play a soundtrack, both composed and improvised, full of emotional themes and spontaneous development that will enhance the creepiness of the film. A Peruvian Sojourn MCC faculty members Carmen Rodríguez-Peralta, pianist, and Orlando Cela, flutist, will perform a lecture recital devoted to Peruvian works inspired by Indigenous melodies, rhythms, and instruments. Historical and cultural background information will be presented. Piano solos by Pablo Chávez Aguilar and Enrique Iturriaga, a flute solo by Celso Garrico-Lecca, and pieces for flute and piano by Clotilde Arias, Andrés Sás, Jorge Villavicencio Grossmann, and Gabriela Lena Frank will be performed. Island of Peoples The Lowell Chamber Orchestra will perform this dramatic multimedia oratorio, composed in 2019 by Gabriele Vanoni. Island of Peoples is based on stories of immigrants coming to the United States, and it draws inspiration and material from the stories of the Ellis Island Oral Histories. These interviews include stories of struggle, pain, and sadness, but also of joy, love, friendship, and faith. Middlesex Community College will close out the Spring 2023 “A World of Music” concert series with a performance by noted Peruvian cellist Jesús Castro-Balbi at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 12 at MCC’s Concert Hall in Bedford. All of MCC’s “A World of Music” concerts are free and open to the public. MCC’s Concert Hall is located in Henderson Hall at 591 Springs Road in Bedford. Parking is available on-campus.
