Safe Routes to School offers these tips for walking in winter:
Wear bright or reflective clothing.
If you can’t see drivers, they can’t see you. Use the “sneak and peak” method around snowbanks to safely cross the road.
Dress in layers—wear a hat, scarf, and gloves to stay warm.
Watch out for slippery surfaces.
Approach wet, dark areas on pavement with caution. Walk like a penguin! Walking at a slower pace can help keep you balanced and keep you from taking a spill.
