Science and Politics Behind a Stem Cell Cure for HIV/AIDS
February 25, 2018 @ 9:00 am - 9:50 am
The Bedford Lyceum welcomes Ann Kiessling, one of the world’s leaders in human parthenogenic stem cell research to talk about possible cures for HIV and AIDS. She writes “Still a socially challenging disease, HIV/AIDS treatments have been fraught with political challenges since the beginning of the pandemic in 1983. The politics behind 73 failed HIV vaccine trials have thwarted other efforts to fully understand disease transmission. Now, in the face of a potential stem cell cure, unique barriers to stem cell research and implementation exemplify the political and competitive barriers to stem cell research in general.”
