Reception for Artists Carol Rissman and Cathy Comstock
February 4, 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Please join us for a reception showcasing Carol Rissman’s ceramic mosaics and Cathy Comstock’s pots, featured in the gallery at the Concord Free Public Library the month of February. Rissman, of Bedford, uses techniques including carving, printing, drawing, and natural objects themselves to create work that is both organic and abstract. “I’m very interested in patterns and textures in nature, and clay is the perfect medium for capturing the feel of the landscape.” Carol is a Resident Artist at the Harvard University Ceramic Studio.
The show, Handscapes, also features the work of Cathy Comstock, a Concord artist, who creates pots out of natural materials including coconut palm, cinnamon, shark’s teeth, pumpkin stems, shells, popcorn, starfish, fern stems, and seed pods; most from the Concord area. In a unique process, she builds, then sculpts her pots, sometimes using sandpaper as fine as 12,000 grade and taking as long as 3 months to finish.
