Night in Acadia/Light Painting with Howie Motenko

November 9, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free

On Tuesday, November 9  at 7 PM the Bedford Center for the Arts Photo Group will host Maine-based photographer Howie Motenko with a virtual presentation entitled “Night in Acadia/Light Painting”.

Howie draws continuous inspiration from Acadia National Park, which is literally in his backyard.  His creativity, combined with his short-term project perseverance, has led to two community collaborative projects: Painting Islands and Painting Bridges; these dovetail into his current project, a series of unique moonlit Acadia landscapes.

Howie explored Acadia National Park as Artist-in-Residence for the 2019 season.  He is the recipient of a Maine Arts Commission for his Acadia Moon Dance project and his Painting Islands project, and was honored with the Friends of Acadia Community Volunteer Award for his Painting Bridges project. Venues for solo exhibitions from his projects include: Maine State Capitol, various venues on Mount Desert Island including Acadia National Park, and even on a ship, the Sunbeam V, which reaches Maine’s year-round outer islands. Through print sales from these projects, Howie is proud to have donated over $7,000 to local non-profit organizations.  www.howiemotenko.com

Howie leads photography tours and workshops through his business, Acadia Photo Safari, www.acadiaphotosafari.com.  He holds a Master of Liberal Arts degree from Harvard University.

In-person meetings of the BCA Photo Group are suspended until further notice.  We’ve been holding meetings online with great success.  Meeting links are sent to BCA members and registered guests shortly before the 7 pm start-time.  Non-members wishing to attend as Guests should use the Contact Form on bcaphoto.org; select Guest Attendee under Inquiry Type.  Guests are welcome to attend two meetings, and then should join the group, if they would like to continue. The event is free and open to the public.

This program is supported in part through a grant from the Bedford Cultural Council, a local agency, which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
