Mosquito Spraying

June 26, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 11:30 pm

Mosquito Spraying Planned for Bedford 6-26-18
(Rain Date 6-28-18)

For the week beginning June 25th, 2018, the East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project is planning to use truck mounted aerosol sprayers to apply Sumithrin in Bedford. All spraying is done between dusk and 11:30.

On Tuesday, June 26th, 2018, spraying is scheduled for neighborhoods of Bedford that are located near Concord Rd., Davis Rd., Carlisle Rd. North Rd. and Huckins Farm.

If spraying is postponed due to weather, it will be rescheduled for Thursday, June 28th.

The Project uses a spray formulation containing the pesticide, sumithrin, to control mosquitoes. Sumithrin is a synthetic pyrethroid that that the EPA classifies as slightly toxic.  Mosquito control applications of sumithrin do not pose a significant risk to people or their pets due to the low toxicity of the pesticide and the small amount that is used to control mosquitoes. As with any pesticide, people should minimize their exposure. If residents see a spray truck approaching, they are advised to go indoors for a couple of minutes, while the spray dissipates. Residents are advised to close windows.

Beekeepers do not need to take any special precautions because the spraying begins after dusk.

Information regarding the schedule and areas to be sprayed is available on the Project’s website at https://sudbury.ma.us/emmcp/  If residents have any questions related to the spraying or any questions on mosquitoes, contact the East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project at 781-899-5730.
