Throughout the pandemic, Middlesex Community College has continued to provide students with high-quality courses, activities, experiences and events. For students in MCC’s Performing Arts programs, this includes opportunities to practice their art. Middlesex will present a Student Recital for its next performance of the online spring concert series, “A World of Music.”
“We feel that it is important for students to be able to perform for one another and for the general public, especially during this time when they are separated from each other,” said Carmen Rodriguez-Peralta, MCC’s Chair of Music. “We are delighted that our Student Recital will feature student singers, pianists, guitarists, cellists and the MCC World Drumming Ensemble.”
Featuring a compilation of student performers, the concert will air online at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 7. Each student recorded their individual performance at their homes or in a socially distant and safe way at MCC’s Concert Hall in Bedford and the Richard and Nancy Donahue Family Academic Arts Center in Lowell.
From Westford, Margaleet Katzenblickstein is an MCC Dual Enrollment student interested in majoring in Performing Arts, Music. Although online, she enjoys being able to perform.
“Even while at home, performing gives you a chance to connect with others and be part of something bigger than just yourself,” Katzenblickstein said. “It also gives you a goal to work toward, which is useful.”
Em Russell – from Dracut – graduated from MCC’s Performing Arts, Music program in the Fall 2020 semester. When Rodriguez-Peralta invited her to be part of the recital, she jumped at the chance to perform and engage in her passion.
“I am so happy to share the music I love performing with others in any way I can,” Russell said. “Virtual performances provide the opportunity to share that music with more people than ever – and that is something I definitely enjoy.”
The final performance of the concert series will be by the Lowell Chamber Orchestra who will perform “On the Double” at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 15.
Previous performances included “Celebrating Black Composers from Europe, Africa, United States and South America” from MCC faculty members, a concert by The Rasa Strings Quartet, and a previous concert by the Lowell Chamber Orchestra entitled “Miniature Universes.”
All events are free. Visit www.middlesex.mass.edu/worldofmusic/ for links to watch each of the recordings. Contact Rodriguez-Peralta at [email protected] or 781-280-3923 for more information.
