Film – “The Man Who Saved the World”
January 13, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 2:30 pm
Free“The Man Who Saved the World” tells the story of Stanislav Petrov, a soviet military officer on duty in a nuclear command center in 1983 when an alarm came in that US missiles were headed toward the Soviet Union. Instead of ordering a counter attack according to protocol, he followed his gut conviction that it was a false alarm. In doing so, he prevented a world wide nuclear holocaust and the deaths of millions. Many of us are alive today because of his judgement. Initially praised by his superiors, he later received a reprimand, retired from the military and ultimately suffered a nervous breakdown. The screening will be followed by a discussion. Free and Open to the public, a light lunch will be available.
