Bedford’s 14th Annual Arbor Day Talk

April 26, 2019 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Free

Please join Bedford’s Arbor Resource Committee (BARC), Department of Public Works (DPW) and Tree Warden to celebrate Arbor Day with our Talk, “A Walk Around the Bedford Park- & Wood-Lands: a talk inspired by Peter Wohlleben’s The Hidden Life of Trees,” presented  by Christa Collins.

Most of us appreciate trees only for their beauty and shade. Christa Collins delves into the many reasons why trees – urban, suburban and wilderness – are so much more. Their multitude of contributions include climate change mitigation; air and water purification; flood prevention; wildlife, insect and healthy-bacteria habitat; traffic calming; physical and psychological healing, including the ability to help lower rates of stress and blood pressure. They are critical for the well-being of our species and our planet. Further, she will explore some of the remarkable strategies healthy trees and forests use to survive and thrive. Finally, she will discuss the Bedford properties protected by the Sudbury Valley Trustees.

Christa Collins is Director of Land Protection for Sudbury Valley Trustees, a regional land trust that protects natural areas and farmland for wildlife and people. It collaborates with the Town of Bedford to help protect a number of properties, including the Hughes, O’Connor and Peppergrass Brook conservation areas and holds conservation restrictions on over 100 acres.

The talk, in Bedford Town Center, 2nd floor Flint Room, is free, appropriate for all ages and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.  For information: jaci929 @verizon.net or 781-275-3536.
