BCA: Theme-Based Image Sharing Projects

May 23 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

On Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 7 pm Glenn Ruga returns to the BCA Photo Group for a virtual discussion of Theme-Based Image Sharing Projects from several BCA members. This Image Sharing meeting will be a review of 6-8 images captured as an assignment over several months. The assignment relates to the storytelling aspects of photography as much as it does to the technical and aesthetic qualities of the photos individually.

Glenn Ruga is a photographer, graphic designer and curator. He founded the nonprofit Social Documentary Network (SDN) in 2008 as a web platform for a global community of documentary photographers. He has created traveling and online documentary exhibits on the struggle for a multicultural future in Bosnia, the war and aftermath in Kosovo, and on an immigrant community in Holyoke, Mass.

In 2015, Glenn launched ZEKE: The Magazine of Global Documentary, a print and digital magazine presenting the best stories from the Social Documentary Network. Glenn is the Executive Editor and Art Director of ZEKE.

From 2010-2013, Glenn was the Executive Director of the Photographic Resource Center (PRC) at Boston University. Glenn is also the former art director of Loupe, the magazine of the PRC. Glenn has also been a reviewer for Palm Springs Photo Festival, Rhode Island School for Design, Bronx Documentary Center, Santa Fe, FotoFest, Photographic Resource Center, Women Photographers of Washington, and SDN.

This meeting is free and open to the public.  A meeting link will be sent to the BCA member email list shortly before the meeting.  Non-members wishing to attend Glenn’s presentation as Guests should use the Contact Form on bcaphoto.org; select Guest Attendee under Inquiry Type. Guests are welcome to attend two meetings, and then should join the Group if they would like to continue.

This program is supported in part through a grant from the Bedford Cultural Council, a local agency, which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
