Traditional local Veterans Day observances are scheduled for noon on Saturday, Nov. 11 at Veterans Memorial Park.
An annual highlight of the ceremonies is individual tributes to specific veterans – living or deceased — by attendees, who announce names and relationships and insert miniature flags into a memorial wreath of honor.
Speakers again will represent government and veterans’ organizations: Select Board Chair Bopha Malone, State Rep. Kenneth Gordon, Commander of American Legion Post 221 Rob Bowes, and the Rev. Dr. Alonzo Chisholm, commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1628. Sgt. Brian Bills will offer opening and closing prayers on behalf of both organizations,
Bedford Scouts will lead the recitation of the “Pledge of Allegiance.” The Bedford High School Marching Band will present “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “God Bless America.” Two band members will play “Taps.”
Bedford’s Public Safety Honor Guard will escort the Patriotic Holiday Committee members and dignitaries to the dais, accompanied by musicians of the Bedford Minutemen.
In case of inclement weather, ceremonies will take place in the Buckley Auditorium at Bedford High School.
