It’s Father’s Day on Sunday.
I can’t help but think about the generations ahead of me, both living and gone, as the holiday approaches.
I recently read a story comparing parents with young children today to those thirty years ago tackling common household issues that come up. The article looked at handling a small crisis like changing a tire, unclogging a toilet, jumping a car battery, and simple home improvement projects – painting a room, replacing a toilet, etc.
In general, the article reported that folks did a lot more DIY projects thirty years ago than today.
My dad was a theoretical physicist, so the home repairs that “in theory” should have worked but ended up much worse than the original problem are legendary. (Someday I need to tell you how our dingy ended up on Rt.128.)
I’m not the handiest person in the world, especially compared to some of my friends, but compared to my dad I look like Norm Abram from “This Old House.”
So What’s Bedford Thinking?
