The future looks bright for baseball and softball at Bedford High School. Teams in both sports at the John Glenn Middle School finished undefeated in interscholastic play this spring.
Coach Geoff Chase managed two baseball teams; the A team played an eight-game schedule, winning them all, most by lopsided scores. The B team won four times; its fifth game ended in a tie.
Coach Andrea Edmunds’ softball team won all nine of its games, and all nine ended early by rule because of run differential. The cumulative score was 147-13.
The A baseball team, Chase said, had “no weaknesses. The fielding was top-notch, the batting got better every game, no player was ever concerned about their spot in the batting order or what position they were scheduled to play.”
The B team “fought hard all year, practiced hard, worked as a team, and improved in all areas along the way,” he added.
The undefeated softball team featured a core of eighth graders: Ashley Schuman, Rebecca Sobol, Lyla Hollingsworth, Emma Hollingsworth, Maddie Thompson, Elizabeth Trant, Annie Rossi, Asalie Brosgol, Alyssa Caruso, Chelsea Busch, and Taylor Betts. Edmunds coached with Sara MacDonald.
