What’s Happening in Bedford: Bedford Edition – Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous

May 2, 2023

Our society seems to be obsessed with celebrities. Maybe it’s social media or the fact that everyone has a camera in their pocket, but we are living in a time of celebrity obsession. So, jumping on the bandwagon, I thought we could take a look at celebrities that have even a tiny connection to Bedford.

Our own Bedford has its share of celebrities. Last week we looked at Thomas Greaney and Natalie Lewis.  And there is Neera Tanden, the late Joe Bellino – Heisman Trophy winner – as well as the late Doug Coombs, an extreme skier. We also had a rock star, Doug Ardito, who was a member of the band Puddle of Mudd, and briefly, two summers ago, we had Zendaya (shhh!). Distinguished people by all means. Doing a quick search as to what other Bedfords claim as their own celebrities is always fun.

Bedford, Ohio – Did you know Halle Berry graduated from Bedford High School in 1984? Also Mike Easler, Major League Baseball player and coach, hails from Bedford OH.

Bedford, England –  John Oliver, the award-winning host for HBO’s “Last Week Tonight,” went to school in Bedford. Oliver was honored for the variety talk series during the 70th annual Primetime Emmy Awards. Other famous people from Bedford England include: Harold Abrahams, 1924 Olympic 100-meter champion and character in the film “Chariots of Fire.” Another Olympian is Eddie “The Eagle” Edwards, ski jumper.

Bedford, Indiana – Was home to James Samuel Coleman, an American sociologist, theorist, and empirical researcher, based chiefly at the University of Chicago. The reason he is on this list is because he is actually listed as the “Most Famous Person from Bedford, Indiana.”

Bedford, Texas – Is where Jenna Boyd, actress, is from. Former Red Sox catcher Blake Swihart also was born there.

Bedford, New Hampshire – Seth Meyers, Saturday Night Live alumnus, began living in Bedford at age 10. Now he is host of the Emmy award-nominated “Late Night with Seth Meyers” on NBC. Sarah Silverman was born in Bedford. Her comedy skills, acting, and writing have garnered her widespread attention and accolades.

Bedford, New York – In terms of celebrities with a Bedford connection there is an obvious winner. In Westchester County’s Bedford, there is a long list of celebrities who at one time, or still do, call Bedford home. In fact, the whole idea for this story started with the news that Matt Damon was buying a house in Bedford. Here is a partial list of famous people in Bedford, NY:
