Veterans Services Director Moves to State Job

The Director of Veterans Services for Bedford and Lexington has taken a new position as deputy director of operations for the state Executive Office of Veterans Services.

Gina M. Rada, a U.S. Air Force veteran, was appointed to the two-town position in December 2014, managing the administration and application of veterans’ benefits.

Heidi Porter, Bedford’s Director of Health and Human Services, said Tuesday a successor has been hired, although no specifics will be released until the new employee starts work, probably in early June.

Most veterans services in Bedford are handled by the assistant district director, Bill Linnehan, who is now managing benefits in both towns.

Bedford has a disproportionate number of veterans because of the presence of the VA Medical Center and Bedford Green veterans housing, where Rada maintained office hours, Porter said.

Under the intertown structure, both Linnehan and the new director are employees of the Town of Lexington.
