Memorial Day Weekend 2023 Events and Reminders

The Town of Bedford Memorial Day Weekend events kicks off on Saturday, May 27 with ceremonies honoring, remembering, and celebrating Bedford Veterans. Courtesy Image.

Saturday, May 27: Bridge dedication ceremony for Major Barry A. Seidman, USAF, Ret., beginning at noon at Veterans Memorial Park (160 The Great Road). The bridge being dedicated spans the Shawsheen River in the area of 328 The Great Road. To accommodate a larger crowd than can be safely assembled at the bridge site, the ceremony will be held at Veterans Memorial Park. Local, state, and federal dignitaries, including Congressman Seth Moulton and Representative Ken Gordon, will speak to the heroism of Major Seidman. A sign that will be placed on the bridge will be unveiled. Bacon Road, between the Great Road and Crescent Street, will be closed to non-residents between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. In case of rain, the ceremony will take place in the Bedford High School Auditorium. More information.

Monday, May 29: The Town of Bedford’s annual Memorial Day events, organized by the Patriotic Holiday Committee, will take place with the following schedule:  

  • 8:30 am: American Legion Memorial Ceremonies
  • 8:45 am: Service at Shawsheen Cemetery
  • 9:15 am: Shawsheen River Ceremony to honor Navy Veterans
  • 10:00 am: Old Burying Ground – Revolutionary War Veterans
  • 10:45 am: Bedford HS Fallen Veterans Memorial Tribute
  • 11:00 am: Parade begins at Mudge Way to Veterans Memorial Park, with a stop at the World War I Memorial on the Great Road  
  • 11:15 am: Memorial Day Ceremonies at Veterans Memorial Park

During the ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park, the Great Road at Springs Road & South Road will be closed to throughway traffic and detoured down Springs Road and South Road. The Great Road at Loomis Street will be closed to throughway traffic and detoured down Loomis Street. Access to shopping centers and residences will be allowed in that area. Police officers will be on hand to ensure the safety of parade participants and road users. In case of rain, the parade and outdoor ceremonies will be canceled and the Veterans Memorial Park ceremonies will be held in the Bedford High School Auditorium starting at 11:00 am.  

Town of Bedford offices will be closed on Monday, May 29 in observance of Memorial Day. Trash and Recycling will be collected on Tuesday, May 30 due to the holiday.
