An elegant late-spring Bedford tradition unfolds on the center campus next Thursday starting at 4:15 p.m.

The annual Senior Prom Stroll, originated and sustained by the Bedford Chamber of Commerce, will take place for the second time along the historic Jenks Nature Trail, beginning across from the main entrance to the high school.

“The Prom Stroll originated in 1998 and for 25 years has been a much-anticipated community event to celebrate and honor the graduating class as it embarks for the senior prom,” said Rob Miner, Chamber of Commerce executive director.

“In gowns, tuxedos, and other formal attire, participants will enter the familiar walkway, and traverse southward down the tree-lined corridor,” Miner said. “It’s a unique opportunity to highlight each participant and their elegance.”

At the conclusion of the walk, near the tennis courts, strollers will assemble for a group photo and board buses for the senior prom at Danversport, which begins at 7 p.m.

Family, friends and spectators are invited to send off the members of the BHS Class of 2023 before their prom next Thursday by lining the walls of the Jenks Trail. Staff Photo. 2022.

Miner said family, friends, and other spectators will be positioned outside the stone walls on either side of the corridor. Organizers request that spectators stay off the walls to ensure safety.

“We understand the excitement of the stroll and plenty of space and visibility for photo opportunities will be available,” Miner said.

The Bedford High School Parents Association is among the sponsors of the Prom Stroll, and the group’s co-president, Susan DiGangi, thanked the Chamber of Commerce “for coordinating this great event. Rob is doing a great job pulling this together. The Prom Stroll is a much-anticipated event each year, bringing the Bedford community together to celebrate our high school seniors on a milestone evening.”

DiGangi’s daughter Danielle, a member of the BHS Class of 2023, said, “The Prom Stroll has been a tradition in my family since I was young. It’s a great event that allows the community to come together to watch the seniors enjoy one of the last experiences together in their high school journey. I am excited to be participating this year.”

Barret Sotheby’s International Realty again will be the premier sponsor for the Prom Stroll. Other sponsors and contributors include Peter Bagley, New England Nurseries, Callahan’s Karate, Creative Images Boston, and several town departments including Police, Public Works, and the Recreation Department.

In case of inclement weather, the event will take place in the BHS gymnasium.
