Four BHS Athletes Qualify for States in Track and Field

Four members of the Bedford High School track and field teams are advancing to this weekend’s state meet at Fitchburg State University, based on their performances in the MIAA Division 4 championships last Friday and Sunday.

Ten athletes won medals, along with two relay teams. The Bedford girls finished fourth out of 31 and the boys’ team was 15th out of 29 teams at Notre Dame Academy in Hingham.

Qualifying for the state championships were Jessica Lin, third in the Division 4 discus with a throw of 108 feet, 10 inches; Carter Rauch, third in the 800-meter run in 1:57.11; Jonny Garraway, sixth in the two-mile in nine minutes, 45.32 seconds; and Samantha Sheahan, eighth in the two-mile in 11:35.95

Other medalists were Garraway, sixth in the mile in 4:28.90 – less than a fifth of a second off the state qualifying cutoff time; Lin, who placed fourth in the shot put (34 feet, three-and-a-half inches) and javelin (103 feet, one inch); Josh Garraway, eighth in the 400-meter hurdles (59.80); and Aashutosh Budhathoki and Peter Benson tied for eighth in the pole vault (nine and a half feet).

Also, the boys 4×400-meter relay team placed fifth in a time of 3:32.60. The team members were Joshua Garraway, Austin Cullis, Jonny Garraway and Rauch. The girls 4×800-meter relay team placed sixth with a time of 10:16.44. The team members were Grace Niu, Anna Massaro, Sheahan and Zadie Buckley.

Other Bedford High results in the divisional championships were:

Josie Donnelly, 28th in 400-meter hurdles; Buckley, 15th in the 800-meter run; Niu,18th in the 800-meter; Vivian Liu, 24th in the 800-meter; Massaro, 20th in the two-mile; Taelor Nichols, 21st in the triple jump; Ryan Fitzgerald, 26th in the 200-meter run; Gil Galman, 19th in the triple jump.

Also, Josh Garraway, 14th in the 110-meter high hurdles; Andrew Tram, 16th in the long jump; 

Farrah Scott, 19th in the 400-meter run; Benson, 19th in the javelin; Sheahan, 22nd in the mile; and Rauch, 27th in the 400-meter.

The Girls 4×400-meter relay placed 14th. Team members were Elena Protasowicki, Allison Miller, Vivian Liu and Ciara Shelton. The boys 4×800-meter relay placed 15th; team members were Oren Brosgol, William Protasowicki, Leo Disano and Simon Bendersky.
