Resilient.

That’s the best way to describe the Bedford High School boys’ lacrosse team’s four games into the 2023 season.

After a pair of disheartening overtime losses, the Bucs returned to success with a hard-fought 8-6 victory over Waltham on Sabourin Field on Tuesday afternoon. Bedford, now 2-2, hopes the momentum carries over to its next game – Thursday at Weston.

Senior Eric Miles was unstoppable in the win with five goals as well as an assist. The other Bedford scorers were Richie Fedele, Jackson Malio, and Logan Skipper.

Other contributors were Aaron Kreier, who won 14 faceoffs; the Bedford defense, led by Ian Grove; and Ryan Cohen, with seven saves in goal.

The Bucs scored four times in the second quarter, but Waltham found the back of the net with 14 seconds remaining, then added two more unanswered in the third quarter. But the Hawks never got the equalizer.

Bedford Coach Ashley Martell praised the team’s work ethic. “We need to continue to grow with our skills – and mentally,” she added.

Bedford’s first loss in overtime was at Wayland, 8-7, negating a two-goal comeback in regulation. Then against Burlington the Bucs outscored their hosts, 4-0, in the fourth quarter, taking the lead with a minute left. But the Devils tied the game with four seconds to play in regulation and won in OT, 11-10.
