An Obituary: Robert Brownell Angus, Jr.

Robert (Bob) Brownell Angus, Jr. of Bedford died on Thursday, March 30, 2023, peacefully at home with hospice care after failing health at the age of 94.

He was born in Attleboro on Aug. 13, 1928. He graduated from Northeastern University (1947) with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering with honors and Harvard University (1953) with an M.S. in Engineering Science.

He was an Instructor of Mathematics and Electrical Engineering at Northeastern for 59 years as well as at various local colleges. He was also a researcher, designer, and engineer for several firms including GTE/Sylvania as well as an author or co-author of many texts on mathematics and electrical engineering. Robert also owned Bowen’s Toyland, Inc. in Bedford for many years.

He enjoyed ocean sailing in Marblehead, teaching others to sail, and Scottish dancing. His greatest joys came from helping others advance their skills and abilities.

He is survived by his wife Sara MacGilvra Angus, two sisters (Barbara Dean Boynton of North Attleboro and Norma Ruth Shelton of Atascadero, CA), four children (Scott, Bruce, Brett, and Rebekah deceased), two step children (Lisa and Nick), six grandchildren (Frank, Anthony, Nicholas, Chloe, Paige, and Hayley), three step grandchildren (Shayla, Nick, Jr., and Miles), two great grandchildren (Max and Juno), one step great grandchild (Darryl, Jr.), and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 29 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Bedford, followed by a reception in the Parish Hall.
