What’s Happening in Bedford? Mascots!

For no reason other than we thought it might be fun, we’ve created this column to post some things going on in Bedfords around the world. We know Bedford, Massachusetts is the home of the Bedford High School Buccaneers. We thought we’d look around at other mascots. 

Bedford High School in Bedford, Ohio is the home of the Bear Cats, while Bedford High School in Bedford, Pennsylvania is the Bisons. The Bedford High School mascots in both Bedford, New Hampshire, and Bedford, Iowa are the Bulldogs.

In Bedford, Texas, students start out in one of the many elementary schools as Bulldogs, Bobcats, Shetlands, Stallions, Dolphins, or Cougars, graduate into Broncos, Black Hawks, or Spartans in middle school and end up as Blue Raiders or Trojans at one of the tri-town high schools. 

Bedford North Lawrence High School in Bedford, Indiana, with a motto “Tradition Never Graduates,” is the home of the Stars. 

Bedford High School in Temperance, Michigan is the home of the Kicking Mules. Northern Bedford County High School in Loysburg, Pennsylvania is the Panthers.

Liberty High School in Bedford, Virginia is the Minutemen. Also in Bedford Virginia, the Police Department declared its own mascot, a dog named Peedee (which appears to be a Chase from the cartoon Paw Patrol costume?)

The University of Bedfordshire is represented by Bruno the Bull. Bruno and the U of B Bulls are one of the handful of Bedford mascots colored red. 

The Bedford Bandits play ice hockey out of Bedford, Nova Scotia in Canada, while another team of Bedford Bandits plays roller hockey out of Bedford, Pennsylvania. 

Despite having a crest with an eagle, the official mascot of the Bedford Blues, a semi-professional rugby club (with men’s and women’s teams) out of Bedford, England, whose Wikipedia page claims “Bedford is one of the few towns in England where the rugby club is better supported than the football team,” is a Bear. 

In case you didn’t believe the rugby team hype and did happen to want to cheer on the Bedford, England hometown football team (they were referring to soccer, by the way), the Bedford Town Football Club (a semi-professional soccer team in the Southern League in the UK) is the Eagles.
