Opening Day of Baseball Season starts March 30 – What’s Bedford Thinking?

March 24, 2023

The Red Sox open their season on Thursday, March 30 at Fenway Park against the Baltimore Orioles. Opening Day is truly one of the harbingers of spring. The pageantry and traditions all signal the end of winter and warmer days ahead. There is usually a lot of baseball optimism, too, that this could be the year!

For a long time that was always a sentiment from the heart and not the brain. All that changed in 2004 when the Red Sox broke the curse of the Bambino and won the World Championship. Since then, they have won three more world titles. Dreaming of the Red Sox winning it all now is more of a calculation than wishful thinking.

This year the Red Sox are coming off one of the most disappointing seasons in recent memory, finishing in last place in their division. Their off-season was a bit uninspiring, too. That being said, you never know. You can still be excited about Opening Day even if you’re not optimistic about their prospects.
