Friends of Job Lane House Will Hold Annual Meeting on March 26

The public is invited to the annual meeting of the Friends of Job Lane House from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 26 at the First Church of Christ, Congregational.

Following the business portion of the meeting, Virginia Steel will give a presentation on the use of colonial wood in Bedford forests.

“Many kinds of wood went into the construction and furnishing of a house in the 1720s and into its tools and fences. This wood was all obtained and worked locally,” said Steel.

With her interests in botany, history, and woodworking, Steel will survey the scene of locally available woods and the processes by which trees were made into useful products. “What were the roles of water power, swamps, winter freezes, and plentiful firewood in this history?”

Refreshments will be served, and the event is free.
