An Obituary: Mary Barbara Parsons

Mary Barbara Parsons, 84, known to all as Barbara, of Burlington, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, surrounded by loved ones at the Lahey Hospital in Burlington.

She was the daughter of the late Ernest and Mary (O’Laughlin) Harris, born May 3, 1938. Raised in Everett and Westwood, she graduated from Westwood High School. 

In 1957, she married Robert “Bob” Parsons of East Walpole and moved to Oak Ridge, TN, where Bob was stationed with the US Air Force. They eventually settled in Troy and Fitzwilliam, NH, where they raised their four children. 

Barbara received her Associate degree from Keene State College and was a long-time teacher’s aide at the Fitzwilliam Elementary School in Fitzwilliam, NH. She and Bob retired to Englewood, FL, and West Yarmouth until Bob’s death in 2014.

She was known affectionately as Mimi to her family and is survived by her four children, Debra Barnard of Buckhead, GA: Donna Parsons and her husband Harold Haig of Brookline; Caroley Harrington of Bedford; and Robert Parsons and his wife Debra of Boylston, MA. She was the beloved grandmother to Brooks Barnard and his husband Wil Bates of Atlanta, GA; Hannah Parsons and her husband Caleb Holt of San Diego, CA: Hailey Parsons of Jacksonville, FL; Jake Parsons of Boylston; Matt and Kyle Harrington of Bedford; and Ava and Trevor Melz of Brookline and Acton.

She leaves behind her siblings Roy Harris of Brockton, Stephen and James Harris both of Westwood and Thomas Harris of Florida; and is predeceased by her brothers Ernest “Mickey” Harris and Bill Harris.

In accordance with her wishes, there will not be a wake or memorial service at this time. She will be buried alongside her husband Bob at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne this summer.
