The John Glenn Middle School boys’ basketball team has completed its 2022-23 season with a record of seven wins and five losses.

But an even more important number is 19. That’s how many seventh and eighth graders were on the roster, and according to Coach Vin McGrath, “We played all 19 team members each game with everyone contributing in various ways.”

“The kids showed a lot of improvement throughout the year and really took to being coached and pushed,” the coach added.

That was evident when comparing the two games against Weston. After losing on the road by close to 20 points, Bedford won the rematch at home.

“We made some adjustments and the kids did a nice job executing a game plan,” McGrath explained.

Another satisfying win was at Wayland, “where we trailed by double digits multiple times throughout the game, but made some key plays down the stretch to win by two points.”

The eighth graders will be moving on to high school, and “we will be looking to the seventh graders coming back to provide a strong foundation for next year’s team,” McGrath declared.

Parent Kim Parmentier said “It was such a pleasure to see these 8th graders mentor the 7th graders and cheer them on each week! Such a great season to watch! This is what school sports are all about!” Photo Credit: Tara O’Loughlin
