An Obituary: Thomas William McDonald

Thomas McDonald

Thomas McDonald died peacefully at home on Monday, Feb 13, 2023, after being hospitalized for many weeks with complications after surgery. He leaves behind Sharon Lawrence McDonald, his wife of 35 years; Josephine McDonald, his sister-in-law; and several niblings.

Computer systems support was his profession. At the company where he worked, “bugs” were called “stars,” so yes, he fixed stars for a living.

He had been deaf since childhood, and for decades volunteered in cochlear implant research at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Hospital.

Traveling, especially to Great Britain, was his hobby. He also loved to read history, fantasy, and philosophy. He was generous with support for liberal political causes. Most memorable was his wit and humor.

There will be a small family memorial service at the First Parish in Bedford, Unitarian Universalist.

“To live in the hearts of those who are left behind is not to die.”
