An Obituary: Steven M. Hatch

February 16, 2023

Steven M. Hatch, 71, of Billerica and formerly of Bedford, died on Feb. 14, 2023.

He was the son of the late Phyllis (Coyle) and William P. Hatch, Jr.

During his elementary school years, he lived in Dorchester until the family moved to Bedford when he was in middle school.

He was a graduate of the Bedford High School Class of 1970. Shortly after graduation, he entered the United States Navy and served as an Electricians Mate from 1972-1974. He was honorably discharged as a decorated Vietnam War veteran.

Following his Naval service, he received his Master Electrician License. Over the years, he worked for multiple municipalities as a facilities director.

In 2018, he retired as the Facilities Director at Middlesex Community College, although, in true Steve fashion, he was never officially retired and was often doing “odd jobs” or favors when called upon.

He was an avid hockey fan and player for most of his life and enjoyed riding his motorcycles throughout the years. He loved boating and being on the water. His second home in Sebago, Maine was his favorite place. Above all, his family, especially his three daughters, was the most important thing to him.

He is survived by his wife, Laurie (MacEwen) Hatch as well as his daughters, Shannon Hatch of Groton, Devon Hatch and Justin Brooks of Bedford and Erin Hatch of Billerica; his grandson, Finnegan Hatch of Groton; his sister, Stacey Ann Waite and her husband Myron of Westford; his brother, Paul Hatch and his wife Gina of Worcester; his aunt, Beverly Quinn Kirwan and her husband Philip of Canton and his nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford, from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Michael Church, 90 Concord Rd., Bedford, at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the New England Center and Home for Veterans, 17 Court St., Boston, MA 02108.
