An Obituary: Carolyn Draper

Carolyn “Carol” Draper, 83, of Bedford, passed away on Feb. 15, 2023 at the Aberjona Nursing Home in Winchester following a brief illness.

Born and raised in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late Dorothy (Hodgdon) and Herbert ”Hubby” Tyler. Carol attended Cambridge Rindge High School and studied at Katherine Gibbs School in Boston. Carol worked for several years with the Scottish Rites Masonic Lodge offices in Lexington, Massachusetts as a data processor.

Carol met her husband, Kenneth Draper, and married in 1960, settling in Bedford before having their three daughters: Cheryl, Karen, and Kimberly.

 Carol was a longtime and devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Bedford, teaching Sunday School, serving on boards, preparing meals, and crafting for fairs. She enjoyed many hobbies over the years, including being an avid and competitive bridge player. She especially enjoyed spending time with Ken at their getaway home in Quechee, Vermont.

 When grandchildren arrived, Carol was an attentive and loving nana to her grandchildren, Kenneth and Christine Hill, Ryan (Erin) and Brennan Doherty, and Alexandra (Andrew) McClintock, “bonus grandma” to Dominic (Stephani) Pespisa, Justin Pespisa, and Colin (Jen)Pespisa and great-grandma to Vincent, Leo, and Anthony.

Carol was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth J. Draper, Jr in 2014. She was the devoted mother of Cheryl and her husband, Robert Pespisa of Bedford, Karen and her husband, Michael Doherty of Westford, and Kimberly Draper and her partner David Rodriguez, of Nashua, NH. She was survived by her siblings, Herbert (Grace)Tyler of Maine, Marilyn Davanage of Arlington, Robert (Carol) Tyler of Rockledge, FL, Nancy (Tom) Rivet of Tampa, FL, and Deborah (George) Erickson of Orlando, FL. She was predeceased by her brother, Richard Tyler.  Carol was a cherished aunt to many nephews and nieces.

A service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Bedford, 155 Concord Rd., Bedford, at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2023. Burial will follow at Shawsheen Cemetery.

Visitation will take place at the Bedford Funeral Home on 167 Great Road, Bedford from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21.
