Mr. Mezheritskiy – TEAR DOWN THIS WALL!  – Club 600 Expanding Their CrossFit Space

January 24, 2023

This past Saturday, Club 600 took down the wall that separates the dedicated CrossFit area from the rest of the gym. To be honest, it’s not much of a wall. It’s only six feet high and doesn’t even span the whole area. On the other hand, it’s a big milestone in the dream of bringing CrossFit to Bedford.

Denis Mezheritskiy and his wife Jane Karpovsky bought the Summit Health Club in January 2020. Not soon after that, the pandemic wreaked havoc on all sorts of industries. One of the industries hardest hit businesses was the gym and fitness studio segment. It is estimated that 25 percent of all fitness businesses have permanently closed since the start of the pandemic.

Denis attributes their success to being flexible and their loyal membership. Almost immediately when things started shutting down, the club invested in AV (audio/visual) equipment and started streaming their exercise classes.

When restrictions started to lift in the spring of 2020, they moved many of the exercise classes to the parking lot.  We’re Outta Here!! – Summit Fitness Rolls Out Outside Fitness Classes – The Bedford Citizen, Jun 9, 2020.

One of the classes making the move outside was their new CrossFit programming. (Full disclosure, I’m a member of the club and do CrossFit with them.)

I talked with Denis about where they are and their plans for the future. He said, “We have reached 50 members in CrossFit programming which was a goal to expand the space. The larger space allows more programming flexibility, adding more gymnastics and more barbell movements.” Right now they offer 21 different CrossFit classes per week.

More than just CrossFit

Although CrossFit is the newest part of the club, the club has a complete schedule of group fitness from Spin to Barre Dance, Yoga, Total Body Conditioning, Boot Camp, Pilates, Teen Strength, and Zumba. They also have personal trainers to work with individuals.

Denis and Jane attribute their success over the past three years to the Club 600 Community.  That sense of community was evident this past Saturday with several members volunteering to move equipment prior to taking down the wall.
