Have you ever experienced the frustration of trying to read an interesting article in a major newspaper or magazine only to be told, “Nope we’re behind a paywall and you can only read this if you pay for it.”
You will never get this response from The Citizen! We have no “paywall” and our news is provided to you for free. All you need to do is go to our website or sign up for our daily news feed or our Sunday Summary to read all the stories that interest you.
There is one small disclaimer: while the news is free to you it costs us money to produce it – a lot of money, actually. We have a tiny paid staff: our Managing Editor, part time Community reporter, part time Content manager, part time operations manager, and technical support working to improve our website and handle the glitches that hit us every now and again.
The rest of us are an all-volunteer staff. We work for the sheer joy of bringing you the community news you say you appreciate. And although our paid staff are compensated as fairly as we can manage on our limited budget, their pay is nowhere near what they could earn in the larger world.
They, too, do this for love of the job.
What’s the message here, dear reader?
It’s all up to you. A gift in any amount is received with gratitude. If you can make a recurring monthly donation, that is greatly appreciated in helping us manage our cash flow.
Thank you to those who already gave. And thank you to those giving today. You and your gift keep the news free to all.
Editor’s Note: NewsMatch and the opportunity to have your gift matched ends on December 31. To make a gift online, go to: https://thebedfordcitizen.org/donate-2/. Or mail your gift to P.O. Box 212, Bedford, MA 01730.
