Election 2023: Paul Mortenson Announces Candidacy for Select Board

December 30, 2022

~Submitted by Paul Mortenson

I write to announce my candidacy for the Select Board. Why? Because the Select Board is critically important. It not only runs town government, but it also sets the tone in civic affairs.

As such, I commit to be a force for respectful dialogue, inclusivity, and a collaborative approach with all constituencies. This commitment, coupled with my experience, I believe will help me be an effective Board member and continue to make Bedford an even better community.

I was appointed to the Finance Committee in 2014. As a member, and now chair, I have tried to balance my natural tightfistedness with taxpayer money and the common sense need to fund a well-functioning government. I am proud of my work on the Finance Committee and I can report that it has been both fun and rewarding.

As a member of the Select Board, I will always be well-prepared, earnest, and open-minded. Overriding everything, and simply put, my guiding light will always be to do what is best for Bedford. I am confident that following this course will be a recipe for success!

Finally, by way of introduction, I moved to Bedford in 2013. My wife, Stacy, and I have three children, all of whom are Bedford High School graduates. My two eldest daughters are graduates of UMass Amherst, where my son currently attends. I am a lawyer, I work in Lexington, and I was formerly a selectman in Foxborough.

Please support my candidacy at Town Caucus on Jan. 10 and Town Election on March 11.
